It’s my birthday and I’ll write if I want to! Apologies if you’ll now have an earworm. I’ve taken a few days off of writing to enjoy some family time for my birthday. I’m writing today to express gratitude.
First, my gratitude goes to all of you who subscribe to my writing. I’ve heard from many of you who read my articles that my writing resonates with you. I appreciate your thoughtful comments. Reading them is one way I get to know that the time and effort put into research and writing is worthwhile and means something to readers. To those of you who support my writing with a paid subscription, a special thank you.
I am also incredibly grateful for the community support for Advocacy Canada, the nonprofit I founded five years ago. It has been so rewarding to watch our work expand and help to make a difference in the lives of the queer community, particularly for seniors and trans folks. This would not be possible without the generosity of volunteers, including board members, donors, members, and sponsors. As I head into my sunset years, the legacy I hope to leave behind is one of community building and safer spaces for everyone.
To Sara, Brendon, Wendy, Jude, and Nate, my daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and my two grandsons - your love and support means a great deal to me.
To my friends, thank you for your friendship. My life is enriched by your presence.
And last, but surely not least, I’m grateful to you, my partner, Ryan. Life is beautiful because of your love and companionship.

Happy Birthday Wilbur! Keep on fighting the good fight for Canadians and standing on guard for our values and our people.
Happy Birthday (belatedly)!
